Just downloaded and installed it.

It runs, but at the moment cannot see anything good about it, no extra features, and ALL the add on schemes have been disabled.

Looks like all the custom sites I have installed might have survived

Well all bar one user generated site transferred automatically, unknown why that one didn't, but suspicious as it was the last one alphabetically!!  (Looks like a bug to me)

Schemes are a different matter.  I'm appalled with what has happened here and have told them so!!
Quote..........

"You have upped and shot some of your main supporters, the people who have for no financial gain helped the program grow for you by providing freeware schemes to enhance the prog and retain users interest in it.

a) Where exactly have you placed all existing v4 model schemes? Where is the information to tell you this?

b) Where is the information as to what to do to regain them?  What exactly is the compatibility, model by model?

It isn't on your website.

It isn't in the Builder Manual.

Its not at all obvious to a newcomer to the prog within Builder if there at all.

I elected to take the extra large download of the tutorial videos, but where your install placed these and what they cover is not clear, do they cover this or are they only flying tutorials?

How DO we get Schemes from v4 to v5?  This is the MOST urgent matter to resolve please!!"

Subtle? Moi??

Yeah I am gonna hold back on the download for a little while till I know more about the compatibility features and have answers to your questions.
If you are claiming there are no noticeable advantages from the last in other features, then until they work out the bugs I'm not as interested. I have put a lot of time into some of the schemes I have made. Tooling with those has gave the sim more life for me and because of that fact, I have been using it a lot more than I did before creator was out. Those feature are almost as important in value to me as the physic quality.

It is not only that, it seems from others comments that the existing planes have all sorts of issues operationally.

No longer any smoke available on jet models.

Instant throttle response on jets

Vertical performance on planes which have not got that ability (and didn't have under v4)

Bluntly, ITS A MESS!!!!

I have side by side computers one on v4 still, so can compare directly when I get beyond the file transfer issues!!

Fair number of people in UK now saying WTF, it is not better, its far worse!!!

I'm screwed. I downloaded and installed 5, and it's a mess. I tried system restore to get back to 4, and now I get errors, and it crashes. I guess I need to find my DVD and re-install version 4. I'm in Afghanistan, and I don't remember if I brought it. My main source of entertainment is broke!! Maybe they'll get this version sorted soon.

Feel for you...........

For me it would be worse, as my master is v1, upgraded over the years right through. I'd have to buy a v3 copy at earliest to revert. At least I have v4 on another PC so not as screwed as you.

Now regarding update to new version its buggy but it allows model changes and transfers. This is what we didn't have in the past and always wanted. As I understood the deviation from old models and schemes was nessesary bacause of the new physics engine. It's buggy I agree and it needs work but if we help out and submit the issues I'm sure this will be as good and realistic as it should be.

Agreed. I feel like if we all join up beta testing this thing we as the customers can help Phoenix with patching and improvements along the way, rather grumbling about things. I'd say with the new version and it's features it is obvious that they as a company listen to their community more than a lot of companies tend to do.
I can imagine the stress on a company when it comes time to release a major overhaul like this.

Sorry, but that is why in software development you have formal structured Alpha and Beta development programmes, you do not as here just dump it out to unsuspecting users to find major glaring issues.

They have now stated to me that Builder does not work even in 5.0b and that schemes "will be" located etc, etc. Will Be???................yet it was issued WITHOUT any warnings??????? This after YEARS in development???????

This is not "grumbling", they simply have NOT applied normal industry standards to a major update.

Without programme notes, clarity on intent as to process, etc, any "help" users might provide is stumbling around in the dark, fragmented and time wasteful.

And yes, this was my sphere of work, trouble shooting and developing hardware and software in process control, and yes on an earlier (and much smoother) major Phoenix change there was a formal Beta process, and yes I was part of it (unpaid).

This really is a case of take gun, shoot foot on their part...............

This link goes straight to the file. I cannot locate info on this file either in News (inc archive news) nor in Downloads.

Would you please indicate how you found this file, and if possible provide a link to the information rather than the file direct so the true compatibility can be known, as they have in the past regarded "any" as v3 or newer.

Since my simulator became useless after installing the version 5 update, I emailed support, and that link is what they sent me. Over 800 MB. Not a quick download in a war zone. I managed to get it after 5 hours, and ran it. When I opened it, it automatically updated to the latest version 4q. It still crashes when I choose certain models, (P47d, QRX quad). That's all I've tried so far. I have to head to work.

Re where I found the link from phoenix any to v4k
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=27540790&postcount=75
I personally tried it on a new instalation using my v3 disk

http://www.phoenix-sim-files2.com/updates/4.0/program/phoenixRC_v40q_v40r_update.phx

also above from v4q to v4r

however phoenix has pulled the plug on the server updates until further notice. ..

Right Cheers Guys, they have been hiding it "off website". Not that surprising considering its such a large download.

Planesaver, glad you have a better situation that it looked yesterday.
